Migration and Privacy

tl;dr: moving files, stuff might break; I use Google Analytics, it collects data.

Hey everyone,

I know that school is coming to a close in most places, so congrats on making it through another year (or graduating)!

As some of you may know, the account I use to host the files on this blog will be disabled this coming September, so I will have to migrate the files. My current plan is to keep them on Drive, so I don't have to redo all the links, but this might not work as well as I have pictured. Regardless, the moving of files may cause some links to break and the world to end. I'm just giving you a heads up.

About Privacy

Also, I feel like you should be aware that this blog uses Google Analytics, so I'm watching your every move and spying through your webcam. (Just kidding. ha ha.)

In all seriousness, I use Analytics to let me know how the blog is performing, and it's cool to see how the usage of the site changes over the week and breaks (though, I don't check it that often). Some data that I get to see includes:
  • most-visited pages
  • device and browser types
  • number of active users by country and time of day
  • probably other stuff
Bottom-line: Google Analytics collects a lot of data, but none of it is linked to specific users (at least not that I can view), so, don't worry, I'm not judging you for doing pre-calc homework at 2am or anything else you do with this site's contents.

If this makes you uncomfortable, throw away all your electronics, buy a one-way plane ticket to the most remote place you can think of, and live off of the land I would recommend purchasing a VPN subscription, disabling cookies, and trying other tweaks (here's a wiki post for Firefox). Privacy is becoming a larger and larger issue as user data becomes more and more valuable for advertising and whatnot---you should take it seriously (despite the crappy jokes I have inserted in this blog post).

Thanks!
